Who is Kalon Barnes?
According to reports, Barnes signed with college football side Baylor Bears in 2018 as the No. 391 overall recruit and the No. 66 receiver out of Silsbee High School in Texas. The adaptable tough youngster then made the change from receiver to cornerback prior to the 2018 fall camp and has continued to train and remain at that position since.
He was quite the speedster in college as well. At the Texas state championship, Barnes emerged victorious in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash as a senior in 2018, earning a state record in the former. Reports state that he won the 100m with an astounding time of 10.04s, which would have set the national record were it not for wind conditions.
Due to his sheer speed, Barnes joined the Baylor track and field team for a while before committing to football entirely. While his defensive statistics aren’t noteworthy, he did manage several passes defensed and an interception over each of his last three years for his college team.
He played in 11 of 12 games as a freshman, compiling 10 tackles and one pass defensed. The following year, he became a regular and appeared in all 14 of the Bears’ games, helping them to the Big 12 championship game where they suffered defeat against Jalen Hurts and Oklahoma. Nevertheless, Barnes compiled 22 tackles, one interception, six passes defensed and a forced fumble during the course of that season.
In total, Barnes played in 41 career games for the Bears and now it remains to be seen whether the speedster will be able to land a top contract in the NFL.
