Why did Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks didn’t play against the Eagles?

Published by

At one point many presumed that wide receiver Brandin Cooks was desperate to get out of Houston Texans before the trade deadline. As his team suffered their 6th loss of the 2022-23 regular season, they saw their spoken off player sitting out of the contest after he clearly seemed displeased upon not being shipped out.

He did not practice with the Houston Texans due to ‘personal reasons’ after not getting his wish. He even revealed his frustration on Twitter. After the Week 8 loss, the Texans are on a slate of 1-6-1, perhaps signifying just why Cooks wanted a way out.

Cooks wrote in his tweet, “Don’t take a man’s kindness for granted. Covered for the lies for too long those days are done. Crossed the line with playing with my career.”

Brandin Cooks wanted to play for Super Bowl contenders

Brandin Cooks has caught 32 passes for 354 yards in the seven games he has played so far in the 2022-23 regular season. Moreover, Cooks has seen him shifting from one team to another – before joining the Houston Texans, who are fundamentally out of the playoff contention, he played for the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.

For those who are not aware, Houston Texans had reportedly discussed potential trades, including with Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys. However, finding value in exchange for a player who is on the books for a guaranteed $18 million salary next year apparently proved difficult. And this is the primary reason why the 29-year-old Wide Receiver wasn’t traded even on deadline day.
