When New York Jets marquee Quarterback – Zach Wilson went down with a non-contact knee injury in the first preseason showdown in the summer, many expected the repercussions to be immense. Fortunately for Robert Saleh, New York Jets, and for Wilson it wasn’t anything serious, which would ensure his absence from the entire 2022-23 season.
However, after a bone bruise, meniscus tear and minor surgical procedure, Zach Wilson officially return on the field for the Jets in the team’s practice session ahead of Week 2 showdown against the Cleveland Browns. On one hand where it was encouraging to witness the second year QB in action – Saleh stated how Wilson will be back not before Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
While participating in 7-on-7 individual drills, Zach Wilson wasn’t at his most comfortable and best as he still experienced some signs of injury and rust this week. While many speculated whether Wilson would return for the contest against Cincinnati Bengals or even Cleveland Browns? Unfortunately, the answer is NO!
Jets star Zach Wilson to miss Cleveland Browns’ contest in Week 2
Now that Wilson has been side-lined for this contest against the Cleveland Browns, who would lead the New York Jets after their painful loss in Week 1? The answer is – Joe Flacco. Yes, Joe Flacco will continue to start over Mike White, who started three games last season that included an upset win over the eventual AFC Champion – Cincinnati Bengals.
Not having the same hype as Zach Wilson, Flacco seemed to get no major support from the crowd as well. Having played behind a makeshift offensive line, the latter was sacked three times and was hit on numerous other occasions in the team’s 24-9 thumping via the hands of Baltimore Ravens.
Keeping those aside, the likes of Michael Carter, Corey Davis, Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore were undoubtedly impressive with their passing game. The former even averaged six yards per carry against a stern defensive unit in Week 1.
