It took Zach Wilson only 6 weeks to return onto the football field after arthroscopic knee surgery. In the New York Jets’ Week 4 showdown against the resilient Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson’s inclusion has made things very interesting.
The Jets haven’t had their best of form on display since the beginning of the 2022-23 season, so with Zach Wilson returning for the first time, their expectations wouldn’t be any less as they would itching to register a win against a side which can destroy them on their good day.
Given that this season is not about Zach Wilson making himself stand against the greatest modern-day Quarterbacks, Jets would want to see why they have invested their time, money and energy on Wilson, starting Sunday. Everyone is aware that Zach Wilson has plenty of potential, but will he be able to prove it? That will be an interesting story.
It will be wrong to expect Zach Wilson to explode on the grandest stage, when he has missed majority of the preseason, training camp and obviously the first three games of the 2022-23 season. It is natural that Wilson will throw the ball forward, make some big throws, be erratic but will surely not be his 100%. However, what he does with his good plays, what choices he makes, that will be an interesting story.
In his rookie season, Zach Wilson completed 55.6% of his passes in a tally of 13 games. What was intriguing was? Wilson never had the knack for looking at short passes, or rather easy passes. Majority of his successful passes were the more difficult ones. That being said, will we witness the same from this young stud once again? Who knows.
With Wilson returning, the New York Jets will be heavily relying on running backs – Michael Carter and Breece Hall, if they were to top the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.
