Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.
At the AFC Championship Game, which will take place at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, there will be two familiar opponents. The game between the No. 1 seed in the AFC and the No. 3 seed has a huge advantage, but it’s not the kind of edge the ordinary fan would expect.
The top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs haven’t had much success against the third-seeded Cincinnati Bengals, as the Bengals have won all three of their most recent matchups against them, including the AFC championship game that was played in Kansas City the previous year. Although the Chiefs have been dominant for most of the NFL, they have not been successful in beating the Bengals. On the other hand, Joe Burrow does not underestimate them in any way.
Talking about it, Burrow said, “We’ve been in these spots. We have the experience, We know what team we’re playing: a team that’s been to this game the last five seasons, and they’ve all been in that stadium. So, to me they’re still the team to beat, and we’re coming for them. But we know it’s gonna be tough. It’s gonna be hard-fought, and we know the kind of players they have on that side.”
One could say that the Bengals have complete control of the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Chiefs, isn’t buying into the idea that his team is an underdog despite the fact that they are the top seed heading into Championship Sunday.
Cincinnati isn’t as eager to embrace the idea of having the upper hand on the powerhouse Chiefs, but it also isn’t hiding from the reality of the last two campaigns, especially considering the difficulty of the road the Bengals — a team that pulled off a Divisional Round road upset just to reach this point — have traveled to get to this point in the playoffs.
Patrick Mahomes doesn’t think the Chiefs will be underdogs against Joe Burrow and the Bengals
Although the Bengals with Joe Burrow have defeated Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on three straight occasions, and are the favorites heading into the AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs quarterback doesn’t think his team will be an underdog.
Speaking about it, Mahomes said, “Every time I walk on that field, I don’t think I’m an underdog, Especially when I walk on Arrowhead’s field. I just go in with the same mindset of we’re gonna have to play our best football to win. We know we’re playing a great football team that’s beat us the last three times. So, we have to learn from our mistakes in the past and be better in order to win against a great football team.”
Patrick Mahomes had an ankle injury in the Divisional Round playoff game that the Kansas City Chiefs played against the Jacksonville Jaguars, so there was some concern about his health; but, the Chiefs quarterback is now healthy enough to play against the Cincinnati Bengals.
He will be determined to end his losing run of three games to Joe Burrow and go to his third Super Bowl appearance. His opponent will be determined to beat him. If Patrick Mahomes beats the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, then no one will be able to argue that he is not the finest quarterback in the National Football League. Mahomes has a good chance of winning the Most Valuable Player award for this season as well.
Both Burrow and Mahomes deserve to be in this matchup because they have been very consistent throughout the season and have earned their spot. This could make for an exciting matchup between the two teams.
