All you need to know about the status of Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr amid a huge decision by the franchise.
In spite of the fact that there is still a chance for the Las Vegas Raiders to make the postseason, the team has decided to bench their starting quarterback. The decision to start Jarrett Stidham over Derek Carr for the last two games of the regular season was made by Josh McDaniels, the head coach for the Las Vegas team, on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Ian Rapoport, an insider for NFL Network, stated that Carr will not practice and that his absence would be described as “not injury related.” According to Rapoport, during negotiations that took place over the last few days, all parties came to the conclusion that it would be best for Carr to walk away from the remaining two games in order to avoid becoming a distraction.
Although Sitting Carr is not exactly the same as Silver and Black raising the white flag, it is quite close. Although the Raiders are still mathematically capable of making the playoffs, they will need a lot of other games to fall in their favor in order to secure a spot in the postseason.
The fact that McDaniels decided to go with Stidham as their starting quarterback is a strong indicator that the Raiders are less concerned with making the playoffs than they are with evaluating the other options they have at quarterback on their roster. Even though McDaniels won’t come out and say it at this stage in the season, it is clear that they are considering other options besides Carr as their quarterback.
From a financial point of view, moving on from a Carr that is still in good health this February is quite doable. It is also essential to remember that McDaniels stated that Carr played “a lot of football” in 2022, but he did not say that Carr played “a lot of excellent football.”
Josh McDaniels, the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, is feeling a lot of pressure as a result of the widespread belief that the Raiders may fire him. However, in an effort to keep his job, the former RaidersPatriots offensive coordinator has decided to sideline the team’s starting quarterback.
Speaking about it, McDaniels said, “None of us is happy with where we’re at, but we think it’s an opportunity to evaluate a younger player who hasn’t had much time to play, Talking to Derek — who was great — he understands the scenario that we’re in and the situation. Very supportive of the two young guys. Those three guys have worked together hand in hand all year. He’ll do anything he can to help them.”
He added, “It’s more about the opportunity, We’re all accountable to where we’re at, and I think this is more about an opportunity to see a guy that we haven’t seen play in a situation like this against a couple of good teams, really good teams.”
After the conclusion of this season, the Raiders may decide to release quarterback Derek Carr in order to make room in their roster for a younger quarterback to be selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. On the other hand, if anything like that were to occur, a significant number of the team’s most important players may consider quitting the group.
Davante Adams, the star receiver, has publicly stated that he joined the Raiders so that he could play with Derek Carr. If Carr leaves the Raiders for another team, it is unlikely that Adams will continue to play for the Raiders if they decide to stick with a much younger quarterback.
