All you need to know about what happened to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his availability status.
Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, suffered a high ankle sprain during the team’s victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday in the divisional round. An MRI performed on Sunday verified the nature of the injury that Mahomes sustained to his right ankle. The MRI revealed no further damage to Mahomes’ body, according to a source.
Mahomes said on Saturday night that he intends to play in the AFC Championship Game on the following Sunday against the Bengals, who earned their spot in the game by defeating the Bills by a score of 27-10 on the previous Sunday.
Mahomes said, “It feels better than I thought it was going to be now, Obviously, I have a lot of adrenaline going right now, so we’ll see how it feels. But I’ll hop right in the treatment and try to do whatever I can to be as close to 100% by next week. Luckily for us, we played the early game on Saturday, so we get an extra almost half a day that I can let that ankle rest.”
Mahomes had an ankle injury in Week 1 of the 2019 season, which was also played against the Jaguars. Despite the injury, he didn’t lose any time and went on to lead the Chiefs to victory in the following two games, averaging 409 passing yards and tossing seven touchdown passes.
