All you need to know why Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was benched at Alabama for Tua Tagovailoa.
Jalen Hurts was a standout quarterback for Alabama, but he eventually transferred to Oklahoma to continue his career. After a subpar performance in the first half of the 2018 College Football Playoff championship game against Georgia, Hurts was taken out of the game and replaced by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at halftime. In the end, Tagovailoa guided the Crimson Tide to a victory over the Bulldogs by leading them to a 26-23 overtime victory.
Despite having a record of 26-2 as Alabama’s starting quarterback, Hurts served as Tagovailoa’s backup during the following season. Hurts spent his entire junior year serving as Alabama’s primary backup quarterback, but he was able to earn some measure of redemption when he replaced an injured Tua Tagovailoa in the Crimson Tide’s victory over Georgia in the 2018 SEC championship game.
Hurts has made the decision to transfer to Oklahoma for his final year of eligibility, which will begin with the 2019 season. After completing his career at Alabama, he finished with a total of 5,626 yards passing, 48 passing touchdowns, 1,976 yards rushing, and 23 rushing touchdowns.
Because of his performance in the Super Bowl with the Eagles, it is safe to say that Hurts is significantly more talented than Tua Tagovialoa. This is something that Hurts has already demonstrated. Despite the fact that the Eagles were defeated, Hurts had an outstanding performance and was a strong candidate for Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl.
