Nick Kyrgios expressed his displeasure at Mexican Open crowd after they booed him off the court for retiring.
On-court controversies never seem to leave the ‘Bad Boy’ of tennis and he made the headlines again.
Defending champion Kyrgios was knocked out of the tournament after he was forced to retire midway into the match against Frenchman Humbert due to a wrist injury.
Kyrgios, who had decided to play the match through pain earlier had to eventually halt play when he realised, he could not continue any longer.
However, this did not go too well for the Australian as he was jeered loudly by Mexican tennis fans after he decided to quit the game against the lower-ranked Humbert.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios, who is known to be very vocal about his opinions did not hide his emotions and expressed his displeasure at the crowd:
“I couldn’t give a f**k. I literally couldn’t give a “f**k”, Kyrgios said. “I’m not healthy, I tried to come here, I tried to play.”
“I’ve been doing media for the tournament, I’ve tried to help out. I tried to play. I tried to give the fans a little bit of tennis. And their disrespect? I literally couldn’t give a f**k.”
Kyrgios had opted for a medical timeout to have his wrist tapered earlier during the game. However, after losing the first set 6-3 and unable to play, Kyrgios chose to end the game drawing loud boos.
Kyrgios’s decision to retire in the first game could see him lose 500 points after failing to defend his title.
The Aussie could also fall to No.38 in the ATP world rankings. Krygios, who for some time has been suffering from the wrist injury had decided to pull out of the New York and Delray Beach Open recently.
Despite that Kyrgios decided to feature for the tournament in Mexico – his first competitive match since his fourth-round loss to World No.2 Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open, earlier this year.
