The world is coming together to hail the legendary career of Roger Federer as the 20-time Grand Slam champion announced that he is going to stop playing professionally after the upcoming Laver Cup competition.
Tennis stars like Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Serena Williams, and many others have sent in their tributes via social media. Nick Kyrgios also joined the list as he put out an emotional post on his official Instagram account which read:
“no one will ever play the game like you. enjoy it @rogerfederer …… was an honour.”
The Australian tennis pro also uploaded five photos of him and Federer together. Both men share a decent amount of history between them. The 27-year-old has managed to defeat Federer on only one occasion. The Swiss legend has tasted victory in six instances. Their last meeting on the court came in the group stage of the 2019 Laver Cup. Federer won the match 6-7, 7-5, 10-7.
Many tennis players are asked who they feel is the toughest opponent to face among the “Big 3” – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. As per Sportskeeda, Kyrgios hailed Roger Federer to be the toughest obstacle to overcome.
After going down to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final, Nick Kyrgios said that the Serbian wasn’t the toughest opponent he faced.
“I wouldn’t say that [on being asked if Djokovic was his toughest opponent]. Like I said before, I had a chance to win the match. He doesn’t make you feel as bad as Federer does at times,” Kyrgios said, per Sportskeeda.
“I think Federer, out of the other three guys, Federer can make you feel really bad, like he makes you want to leave the court. He can make things seem really quick and that the court’s really small.”
