Leicester City Opinion: Why the Foxes should go for Kieran Tierney?

According to a report from the Sun, Leicester City are interested in signing Celtic star Kieran Tierney.

Kieran Tierney, 21, one of the hottest young prospects in European football, is the crown jewel at Celtic. The Scotsman has endured a start-stop season at Parkhead due to injury problems, but when fit, he has been one of the first names on the team sheet.

Brendan Rodgers, who replaced Claude Puel as the Leicester City boss in April, spent over two-and-a-half years at Celtic and had outstanding success, winning all seven domestic trophies he could. In that time, he nurtured some really impressive talents, including Kieran Tierney.

Thus, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see Tierney linked with a move away to Leicester, who need a solid summer transfer window to break into the top six next campaign. It is therefore essential that reinforcements be brought in.

Some talk has emerged of Manchester City interested in signing Ben Chilwell at the end of the season. Chilwell has become an England international, earning his first cap against Switzerland in September 2018.

And his performances in the Premier League have attracted the interest of Pep Guardiola, who wants to sign the Englishman to compete with Benjamin Mendy for the left-back spot next season.

Should Chilwell leave the King Power Stadium, Brendan Rodgers must definitely replace him with Kieran Tierney.

Tierney’s progression with the Hoops has been exceptional so far. The Scotland international has won domestically everything that has been on offer at the Parkhead, leading Celtic as well. At 21, it’s incredible to see him lead the Hoops as well as amass so many trophies. But, if Tierney wants to grow as a footballer he needs to leave Parkhead sooner rather than later.

And a move to Leicester would be perfect for Tierney. Given that he knows Brendan Rodgers and his philosophy, the move won’t be a gamble at all. The Scotsman’s potential acquisition will undoubtedly bolster the Foxes’ squad, whilst adding squad depth as well.

His awareness, passing range, defensive diligence and speed would make an enormous impact on the Leicester backline. While excelling at the defensive side of the game, the Scotsman is also excellent going forward.

A very good crosser of the ball, Tierney always likes to play on the front foot and contribute his team’s attacks as much as he can. Furthermore, he is a real leader and will bring in a winning mentality at Leicester.

Verdict

Tierney is one of the best left backs in Britain and could even be considered one of the best in Europe. Having coached Tierney, Rodgers should attempt to lure the Scotsman to the King Power Stadium if Chilwell leaves in the summer.
