Serena Williams is a legend of the game. The American superstar has won numerous titles through her illustrious career. She has an astonishing 23 Grand Slam singles titles to her credit and is just a title away from equaling Margaret Court’s record of 24 major titles.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion has struggled with injuries over the past few years. She missed the latter half of the previous season and could only participate in six tournaments last year.

Moreover, she failed to reach the final in any of these six tournaments. Her long absence from the tour has had a serious impact on her WTA rankings; Serena has slipped to the 247th position on the WTA rankings chart.

Williams explained how and when she suffered the injury.“I tore it at Wimbledon,” she explained. “I was actually winning and I went for a shot and I heard this noise and I was like ‘oh no’. I felt it but I felt like ‘OK, let me just keep trying’, but it was bad and I was like, ‘oh man’. I love the grass, it’s something special walking out at Wimbledon, wearing all white and being on the green grass (but) it just wasn’t for me this year.”It is not yet clear if she will return for the Australian Open in January 2022. when asked by Jimmy Kimmel if she would be ready for the first Grand Slam of the season she said: “Yeah, I’m definitely…” before trailing off without giving details. She was last seen in action at the Wimbledon Championships in June last year. Sadly, she had to retire in the first round itself after suffering a hamstring injury. Recently, the American icon has talked about her potential return to tennis.

Serena has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles

This is the most by any player in the Open Era, and the second most of all time behind Margaret Court (24). The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranked her singles world No.1 on eight separate occasions between 2002 and 2017. On her sixth occasion, she held the ranking for 186 consecutive weeks, tying the record set by Steffi Graf.

In total, she has been WTA No. 1 for 319 weeks, which ranks third since WTA Rankings began behind Graf and Martina Navratilova. She is the only American player, male or female, to win more than 20 majors.

Williams is widely regarded to be one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She holds the most major titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles combined among active players, with 39 : 23 in singles, 14 in women’s doubles, and two in mixed doubles.

Williams has won a record 13 Grand Slam singles titles on hard court. Williams holds the Open Era record for most women’s singles titles at the Australian Open (7) and shares the Open Era record for most titles won at the US Open.

She also holds the records for the most women’s singles matches won at majors with 365 matches and most singles majors won since turning 30 years old (10). She is the only tennis player, male or female, to have won three of the four Grand Slams at least 6 times. Williams is also a five-time winner of the WTA Tour Championships in the singles division.
