Norwich should sign Yusuf Yazici from Trabzonspor in January
Yusuf Yazici is currently one of the hottest young properties in the Turkish Super Lig currently. An academy graduate of Trabzonspor, Yazici made professional debut for his boyhood club in 2015 and has made a name for himself as one of the best rising playmakers in the Turkish top flight.
The 21-year-old, who has been capped ten times by Turkey at the senior level, has made a total of 80 appearances for Trabzonspor, accumulating 18 goals and 20 assists across all competitions.
Flaunting a signature ponytail, Yazici stands at 6ft. with a tall and strong frame and has earned rave reviews for his versatility. A technically gifted and tactically versatile midfielder, Yazici was a central midfielder at the youth level but he has developed into a complete attacking midfielder who can play in a No.10 role and on the right side of the midfield.
The youngster has a magical left foot and his intricate first touch allows him to make space for himself in the middle of the park. A central midfielder in his earlier days, he has a good range of passing which not only allows him to move the ball around with ease and dictate terms in the middle of the park but he also has the intelligence and the vision to work the pockets of space between the defenders.
Yazici’s ability to pull off exquisite passes in the final third makes him a potent weapon who always keeps the defenders on their toes. The 21-year-old is also a good distance shooter who is capable of coming up with spectacular left-footed efforts from range.
To add to that, he can play as an auxiliary striker at times and his mobility in the final third makes him a very difficult player to mark. Yazici has averaged 28.7 passes per game with an accuracy percentage of 84.1, including 2.4 shots and 1.3 key passes per game.
To put things into perspective, Yazici has shown enough promise to take the next big step in his career. While a move to the Premier League might be a step too big, he would be a perfect buy for Championship promotion hopefuls Norwich City.
The Canaries have had a good season in the Championship this term under Daniel Farke, sitting 2nd in the standings heading into the second half of the season. They have played one of the most attractive and free-flowing brand of football in the second tier this season and are in with a chance of securing automatic promotion back to the top flight.
Farke’s 4-2-3-1 system has facilitated some wonderful aesthetic football at Carrow Road this season, spearheaded by the talismanic Teemu Pukki with Marco Stiepermann in a No. 10 role. Argentine midfielder Emiliano Buendia has been one of the key components of the team’s attack while Todd Cantwell has emerged as the Canaries’ breakout star of the campaign.
However, they should look to add some fresh faces in January to provide cover and competition for some of their key players, especially Emi Buendia. Buendia has done well but he has been rather inconsistent at times, letting the team down with a few slip-ups.

And that is exactly where someone like Yusuf Yazici fits into the manager’s plans. The Turk is tall and strong and has the drive, determination and skills to boost Norwich’s chances of securing automatic promotion.
He might not come cheap but he has all the makings of a quality playmaker and Norwich should start keeping tabs on the in-form Turkish sensation.
