Norwich would pull off a masterstroke by signing Kingsley Schindler

As per an earlier report from Eastern Daily Press, Championship leaders Norwich City were interested in signing Holstein Kiel’s attacking midfielder Kinglsey Schindler in the summer. The move did not materialize then but with the upcoming winter transfer window, should the Canaries reignite their interest?

Stuart Webber, the man behind Huddersfield Town’s promotion challenge in 2017, did outstanding work in the transfer market in the summer. In fact, the sporting director assembled a fine squad for manager David Farke that has seen the Carrow Road side top the table.

Norwich have enjoyed an impressive start to their campaign, winning 13 out of 21 games. The likes of Teemu Pukki, Emi Buendia and Moritz Leitner have all made a huge impact in the Championship. The Canaries need to strengthen their ranks in January since they have a chance to secure an automatic promotion to the Premier League.

And to that end, signing Schindler would be a smart move. The versatile 25-year-old can play as an attacking midfielder, a centre-forward, a right-winger and a right midfielder. He was one of the best players in Germany outside the Bundesliga last season.

The former Hoffenheim reserve scored 12 goals in 31 starts for Kiel in the second division the last term. The side narrowly missed out on a place in the Bundesliga as they were beaten 4-1 on aggregate by VFL Wolfsburg in the promotion/relegation play-off in May.

This season, Schindler has already scored five goals and provided five assists in 11 league games. He is good at holding onto the ball, crossing, passing, cutting inside from the flank and playing through balls. Thus, Schindler would be a valuable asset for Farke in the second half of the season.

According to German media outlet Fussball Transfers, Norwich are still interested in Schindler. The midfielders’ current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning he could leave next summer as a free agent. However, Holstein Kiel’s sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth has not ruled out cashing in on the player (h/t Fussball Transfers). This January transfer window represents the last chance for the Die Störche to get something for the talented attacker.

The Hamburg-born player would be an exciting addition to Daniel Farke’s free-scoring side. His ability to score would make him a game-changing player coming off the bench. The allure of a move to England’s second tier with the prospect of playing in the top-flight next season could be too difficult to resist.

Hence, Stuart Webber should go all out and ensure he signs Kingsley Schindler this winter window. Given how the Championship race is panning out, the title might be won by fine margins and Schindler would help boost the Canaries’ chances of promotion.
