Predicted Sheffield United line-up to face Sheffield Wednesday
It’s time for the Steel City derby as Sheffield United visit Hillsborough to take on arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Monday in the Championship.
The Blades are in a fantastic form of late, unbeaten in the last six league games and come into this game off the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 win over promotion rivals West Brom.
Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, have done extremely well since Steve Bruce’s appointment in January.
Team News
John Egan and Jake O’Connell are likely to miss out with calf and hamstring injuries respectively, while George Baldock remains a big doubt.
Probable Sheffield United XI
Formation: 3-4-1-2
Manager: Chris Wilder
Dean Henderson (GK)
A clean sheet against West Brom would have given Henderson a lot of confidence. He should keep his place in goal against Sheffield Wednesday.
Chris Basham (RCB)
Basham has been a regular fixture in United’s three-man backline this season. He should start in the Steel City derby next week.
Martin Cranie (CB)
Cranie started against West Brom and did well. He is likely to retain his place in the team on Monday.
Enda Stevens (LCB)
Stevens did well in central defence against West Brom and is likely to be handed a similar role at Hillsborough.
Kieron Freeman (RWB)
With Baldock doubtful for the derby, Freeman should continue at right wing-back.
Marvin Johnson (LWB)
Looked at ease in the makeshift left wing-back role against West Brom. Johnson will be trusted again at left wing-back on Monday.
Oliver Norwood (CM)
Norwood is one of the first names on the team sheet for his calmness on the ball and the stability he brings to the team.
John Fleck (CM)
Fleck is a tenacious customer who adds a lot of energy and grit to United’s play. He is likely to partner Norwood in the middle of the park.
Kieran Dowell (CAM)
Dowell scored the winner against the Baggies and is proving to be a very crucial player for Sheffield United in their pursuit of promotion. The Everton loanee will look to link the play between the midfield and the attack.
Billy Sharp (LS)
Sharp is United’s top scorer and he’ll look to earn his team the bragging rights on Monday.
David McGoldrick (RS)
A skilful customer, McGoldrick will look to get behind the backline and haunt his former club at Hillsborough.
