“Not worried”, “Honda Red Bull Racing on the way?” – Twitter reacts as Red Bull confirm end of Aston Martin sponsorship as Racing Point is renamed

Racing Point will become Aston Martin Racing from the 2021 F1 season with Red Bull losing their title sponsor

Aston Martin will return to the F1 circuit in a works capacity in 60 years, which has an effect on Red Bull racing and Racing Point too.

F1 confirmed that the struggling Racing Point team would be known as Aston Martin Racing, but that sees Red Bull lose out of their main sponsor.

Red Bull also made an announcement regarding the change and confirmed the title partner would end their deal at the end of the 2020 season.

The release claimed that Red Bull and Aston Martin would work together till the end of this F1 season with a road car project also being developed between the parties.

Red Bull also thanked Aston Martin for the partnership over the last four years where the team picked up 12 F1 wins and 50 podiums too.

Racing Point, for their part, have had problems since the days of them being called Sahara Force India. Vijay Mallya has had problems in India with his finances, and the team was taken over by Lawrence Stroll’s consortium.

His son, Lance, is a driver for Racing Point, and Lawrence will be named as the new Executive Chairman for Aston Martin too.

How does this affect Red Bull?

Max Verstappen has signed a new deal with the team recently, and it will be interesting to see how things go in 2021.

A lot of changes are expected in the 2021 F1 season with engine regulations and car dimensions changing. That could be great for Red Bull as their Honda engines aren’t as powerful as Ferrari or Mercedes.

Having Aston Martin on their side for four years didn’t see them make the plunge into the engine race, but that could change with them taking over at Racing Point.
