Nottingham Forest Opinion: Makil Grosicki could transform Forest into realistic promotion contenders
According to Nottingham Post, Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Kamil Grosicki from Hull City in the summer transfer window, with reports claiming that manager Martin O’Neill is keen to bolster his team’s attacking options.
Nottingham Post also understands that the 30-year-old Polish veteran has been linked with a £2.5 million move to City Ground, although Grosicki is yet to make a call on his future.
Grosicki was one of the standout performers of Hull City’s campaign in the Championship this term, as the Tigers finished 13th in the standings and missed out on securing a spot in the playoffs. The 30-year-old contributed with 9 goals and 12 assists in 39 league appearances for Hull and his stellar run of form didn’t go unnoticed, with the Pole attracting plenty of interest from other clubs in England.
A youth product of Polish club Pogon Szczecin, Grosicki rose to prominence in his homeland with the likes of Legia Warsaw and Jagiellonia Bialystok before enjoying fruitful stints at Sivasspor in Turkey and Rennes in France.
The winger made his move to English football with Hull City back in January 2017 and has established himself as one of the biggest fan favourites at the KCOM Stadium over the course of the last two-and-a-half seasons, accumulating 18 goals and 23 assists in 93 appearances for Hull City in all competitions.
A full international since 2008, Grosicki boasts of 12 goals in 66 appearances for Poland, having represented his nation at the 2012 and 2016 Euro Cups.
Essentially a left-winger by trade, Kamil Grosicki is known for his pace, power, drive and determination, which allows him to cut inside and wreak havoc through the opposition’s defence. The Pole combines his quick feet, acceleration and upper body strength to terrorise full-backs, whilst also possessing the crossing and passing attributes to set up goals for his teammates.
Not only does he know how to create his own space, but he also has a penchant for coming up with key passes in the final third. Noted for his good link-up play and tendency to make runs inside the box to score goals, Grosicki is not just a clinical finisher but he is also a very useful playmaking presence down the wide areas. To add to that, he never shies away from pulling the strings and has carved out a reputation for himself as a powerful distance-shooter.
Grosicki averaged 1.9 key passes, 2.8 shots and 1.1 crosses per game in the Championship this term, figures which speak volumes of his well-rounded abilities as a wide player.
To put things into perspective, Nottingham Forest could strike gold if they manage to strike a deal for the hugely experienced Pole this summer and bringing in a player of his calibre for £2.5 million would be nothing but an absolute steal for the club. Martin O’Neill has every reason to be happy with his team’s defensive performances this season but he also needs to be aware of the lack of firepower in his attacking ranks.
Gil Dias’s loan spell from Monaco ended prematurely in January, and given that City have opted against turning Diogo Goncalves’ loan deal into a permanent one, they need to start looking at other options to bolster their squad. Joe Lolley was by far one of the most productive wide players in the Championship this season but Forest might find it difficult to hold on to him should the Premier League sides come calling for his services.
Someone like Hillel Soudani hardly played a part this season and it is a no-brainer that Forest need to bring in another wide player down that left-hand side to provide more competition for Ben Osborn. Grosicki certainly ticks all the boxes and it is not difficult to see that a player of his calibre would add that X-factor and cutting-edge to the team’s rather predictable attack.

Grosicki is a proven source of goals and assists in the Championship and the acquisition of the 30-year-old in a bargain deal this summer might transform Nottingham Forest into a promotion-chasing outfit in the second tier. That said, they should leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of the prolific winger.
