Djokovic makes winning return
Meanwhile, Djokovic made a winning return to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, commonly known as the Dubai Open, since last playing at the venue in 2016.
Djokovic defeated Tunisian Malek Jaziri 6-1, 6-2 in an easy opening game to advance into the second round. By winning this Djokovic now has extended his 13-match unbeaten start to the 2020 ATP Tour season.
Djokovic will be aiming for a fifth title in Dubai, which was a happy hunting ground in the past. The Serb emerged champion in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 and has a 37-6 tournament record.
He will next meet seasoned German player and 2014 semi-finalist Philip Kohlschreiber for a place in the quarterfinals.
