Novak Djokovic creates unbelievable stats in the US Open as he continues to dominate the tennis world
Novak Djokovic, the World No.1 has shown this year why he is most likely to create new records and end up as the Greatest of All time. The Serbian, 34, has won the first 3 Grand Slams of the year and is on the cusp of a Golden Slam, previously achieved by Steffi Graf.
He is tied with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at 20 Grand Slams, but could overtake them next month at Flushing Meadows, New York.
Novak Djokovic US Open Debut
Djokovic began his career after the likes of Federer and Nadal. He made his US Open debut at Flushing Meadows in 2005 and is one of his most favourite venues in the world. The Serb was defeated after an outstanding third round match with the more experienced Fernando Verdasco. He lost 6-1, 4-6, 6-72, 6-4, 6-4.
This was also his highest finish in his first year at the Grand Slams, which inspired him to go further in the coming years.
Novak Djokovic’s first US Open title
He won his first US Open in 2011, where he beat his adversary and bitter rival Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1. The 2011 season was one of the most dominant as the Serb won his first title in New York, his third Grand Slam championship of the year and his fourth major overall.
