Roger Federer recently announced that he will be hanging his boots up after playing in the Laver Cup competition which begins on 23rd September.
The 41-year-old said he would love to continue playing even after the Laver Cup but not professionally. The tennis world has suffered a huge blow as the legendary Federer won’t be seen winning matches for fun with his immaculate blend of skills and strategies.
Federer last played at Wimbledon last year where he was ousted in the quarterfinals by Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. The 20-time Grand Slam champion underwent his third knee surgery in 18 months and did his rehabilitation to get back on the tour. However, the injuries seem to have done enough damage which has forced Federer to bring the curtains down on a spectacular career.
For 24 years, he has mesmerized us fans by bamboozling his opponents. He has won 103 titles during his illustrious career and his name will always be remembered.
Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will be representing Team Europe alongside the likes of Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Casper Ruud.
The Serbian legend has had many famous battles with Federer over the years. He posted a touching message on his Instagram account to bid farewell to his on-field nemesis.
“Roger it’s hard to see this day and put into words all that we’ve shared in this sport together. Over a decade of incredible moments and battles to think back on. Your career has set the tone for what it means to achieve excellence and lead with integrity and poise. It’s an honour to know you on and off court, and for many more years to come. I know that this new chapter will hold amazing things for you, Mirka, the kids, all your loved ones, and Roger fans still have a lot to look forward to. From our family to yours, we wish you much joy, health, and prosperity in the future. Looking forward to celebrating your achievements and seeing you in London. @rogerfederer”
