Born in Amsterdam, Quincy Promes shot to prominence in the Eredivisie with FC Twente before moving across the continent to join Russian giants Spartak Moscow back in the summer of 2014.

The Dutch winger carved out a massive reputation for himself as one of the best talents outside the top-five leagues in Europe over the course of his four-year spell in Russia.

Promes accumulated an impressive tally of 66 goals and 33 assists in 135 appearances for Spartak across all competitions, while also featuring in the UEFA Champions League.

That paved the way for a move to Sevilla in the summer of 2018 and Promes managed a notable tally of 3 goals and 9 assists in 49 appearances for the Spanish outfit in his only season at the club before joining Ajax last summer.

The 28-year-old plundered 16 goals in all competitions, including 5 goals in 4 UCL outings, with the coronavirus pandemic leading to premature termination of the 2019-20 Eredivisie season.

Arsenal’s current attacking scenario

Arsenal finished 8th in the Premier League standings this season before beating London rivals Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley to secure a spot in the Europa League next term.

Teenage sensation Gabriel Martinelli also chipped in with 10 goals in what was a really impressive debut season for the Brazilian starlet. Bukayo Saka also impressed with an envious tally of 4 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, pointing to a bright future for the homegrown starlet.

Nicolas Pepe also chipped in with 8 goals and 10 assists following a slow start to life in North London.

Why Promes could be a good addition

The Gunners scored 56 goals league goals last term, which is pretty decent. But it is not quite up to the mark when you consider that Manchester City bagged 102 goals followed by Liverpool with 85 and Chelsea with 65.

Taking those numbers into consideration, it’s pretty clear that Arsenal need to score more goals if they are to challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League next season.

Regardless of whether Arsenal manage to complete a deal for Willian, Quincy Promes would still be a fantastic addition to the club’s forward line. The Dutchman boasts a proven track record of goals and assists at the highest level in Europe while his experience is something that should also appeal to the Gunners.

The 28-year-old’s potential arrival at the Emirates could have a negative impact on the game time of youngsters like Martinelli, Saka, and Reiss Nelson. That, however, shouldn’t deter Arteta’s interest in the winger, given that the tough competition for places is desirable at any top club.

Aubameyang has often been used as a left-sided attacker and the presence of a specialist left-winger like Promes should allow Arteta to deploy the Gabonese star in his preferred centre-forward role.

Verdict

Suffice to say, Quincy Promes certainly has the pedigree to come through the door as an upgrade on Arsenal’s current wide attacking options. Still only 28, the Dutch international has a lot to offer and the Gunners will be hoping that he’s the man to take them to the next level.
