Sheffield Wednesday will travel to Wales this weekend as they gear up to take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in match week 22 of the 2018-19 EFL Championship.
The Owls are currently stationed 17th in the Championship table, having accrued 24 points from 21 fixtures (W6, D6, L9). Last time they were in action, Jos Luhukay’s side played out a 2-2 draw against Rotherham United.
With just one victory in their last six games, Wednesday find themselves under intense pressure with manager Luhukay’s job under threat. And they will be aiming to turn things around with a win against the Swans on Saturday.
Barry Bannan is suspended for two games, after picking up his tenth yellow card of the season last weekend. The Owls continue to be without the services of Kieran Lee, Gary Hooper, Sam Winnall and Fernando Forestieri for their clash against Graham Potter’s side.
Here’s how Luhukay might set his team up against the Swans at the Liberty stadium;
The 23-year-old has let in 38 goals in his 21 appearances in the second division this term. Must improve on those numbers going forward in the campaign.
The English centre-back has missed just a solitary game for the Owls so far in the campaign. Should once again lead the team out on to the field at the Liberty Stadium.
The on-loan Chelsea defender has been an ever-present at the heart of Wednesday’s three-man defence. No changes expected here from Luhukay.
The 22-year-old has become a regular fixture in the starting XI in recent games for the Owls. Should complete the three-man backline against the Swans.
The 22-year-old has been preferred to Liam Palmer as the right-sided wing-back by the manager and there is unlikely to be any tinkering in that position for Saturday’s game.
The defensive midfielder has been a bit inconsistent so far this term. Needs to step up in a big way if the Owls are to turn things around.
With Barry Bannan suspended for the game, on-loan Tottenham Hotspur starlet Josh Onomah is in line for a start in the middle of the park against the Welsh outfit.
The 20-year-old wasn’t involved in the weekend encounter against Rotherham United. Should come back into the starting XI as the left wing-back.
The 25-year-old has been one of the bright spots in a disappointing season so far for Wednesday, contributing with 6 goals and 2 assists in 21 matches across all competitions. Definite starter on Saturday.
The Portuguese scored both of Wednesday’s goals against Rotherham this past weekend to take his tally for the season to eight goals. Deserves to feature from kick-off against the Swans.

The seasoned campaigner wasn’t involved in the draw against Rotherham but should be reinstated to the starting XI for the trip to Wales on Saturday.
