Former junior world No. 1 Clara Burel faces Bosnian Nefisa Berberovic in the round of 32 of the Open de Limoges on Monday.
The talented Frenchwoman is coming into the tournament on the back of some decent form. She managed to reach the quarterfinals in the last two tournaments she played.
In the WTA Montevideo Open, Burel managed to reach the quarterfinals after defeating the likes of Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva and Ann Li. In the recently-concluded WTA Angers Arena Loire Open, the 21-year-old managed to defeat the likes of Karolina Muchova and Varvara Gracheva en route to the quarterfinals. Burel has something to build on as she hopes to end the season on a high.
The 23-year-old made her WTA Tour debut this year at the 2022 Internationaux de Strasbourg. She entered the tournament as the lucky loser and began her campaign in the main draw with a huge upset win against former US Open champion Sloane Stephens.
Berberovic’s best result on the ITF circuit came in the tournament in Spain in August when she made it to the finals. She was eventually ousted by Kristina Dmitruk in a one-sided final. In her most recent campaign in the ITF event in Monastir, Berberovic lost in the round of 32 to Valeria Savinykh in straight sets 1-6, 4-6. Berberovic will have a tough task on hand but she will have to stay upbeat about her chances.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as Nefisa Berberovic and Clara Burel have never faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Clara Burel to win in straight sets.
