8th seed Marta Kostyuk squares off against talented Danish player Clara Tauson in the round of 16 of the Open de Limoges on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old is yet to win a singles title this year. In the doubles circuit, she won the Slovenia Open alongside Tereza Martincova. Kostyuk will be hoping to end the season on a high by going deep in the Open de Limoges.
While Kostyuk has made it to the semis in the doubles event partnering with Oksana Kalashnikova, the Ukrainian athlete played quite impressively in the round of 32 of the singles event against Joanna Garland. The match eventually ended in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
The swashbuckling youngster came into the tournament on the back of some decent form. She is one win away from reaching her fifth consecutive quarterfinal. The 19-year-old has already won a couple of WTA tour-level titles and she will certainly pose a stiff challenge for Kostyuk.
Tauson began her Limoges campaign with a hard-fought victory in straight sets against the experienced Kristina Mladenovic. The match ended 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) in favor of the youngster. Mladenovic struggled with her serves as she committed 10 double faults but take nothing away from Tauson who showed a lot of grit and determination during crucial phases of the match.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Marta Kostyuk. She defeated Tauson in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the Madrid Open earlier this year.
Prediction: Clara Tauson to win in three sets.
