Bournemouth should hold on to Callum Wilson at all costs
According to the Mirror, Chelsea are interested in signing Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson in January due to his impressive form this season.
The 26-year-old has contributed to more goals than any other English striker in the top flight, scoring 6 goals and assisting another 4 in the process. His blistering form has strengthened claims of his inclusion in the next England squad.
Callum Wilson has been one of the cornerstones of Bournemouth’s early-season success, propelling the Cherries to 6th in the Premier League standings with six wins from eleven games.
Wilson, along with Ryan Fraser and Joshua King has formed one of the deadliest front three in the Premier Lague this season and the trio has shared 13 goals and 10 assists between them.
Wilson’s strike against Manchester United brought up his 50th goal for the club but it wasn’t enough to prevent the home side from suffering a heartbreaking defeat.
As things have shaped up so far this season, Wilson has been the heartbeat of Bournemouth’s attack and losing him midway through the season would deal a huge blow to Eddie Howe’s team. If the first 12 games of the season are anything to go by, Bournemouth have a realistic chance of finishing in the top ten, if not, in the top six.
And losing Callum Wilson who has been their talisman so far would be an unfathomable loss for the Cherries. The 26-year-old has established a very good understanding with Ryan Fraser and Joshua King. While Fraser has been the provider from the left with his inch-perfect crosses, Joshua King has drifted to the wide areas as well to supply Wilson. In fact, they have worked very effectively as a trio, interchanging positions to outsmart the defenders.
To be honest, Bournemouth have played well as a team. The mega-money move to bring in Jefferson Lerma in the summer has paid off and the Colombian has surpassed all expectations in central midfield. David Brooks, who was signed from Sheffield United, has also come to the party, adding that much-needed impetus to the attack and has also tracked back to help out the defenders.
However, the Cherries do not have too many options on the bench to replace someone of Wilson’s calibre. Junior Stanislas has done well in the absence of Josh King but the 36-year-old Jermain Defoe is just a shadow of the player that he was in his younger days. French U21 international Lys Mousset has been given some playtime in the Carabao Cup games but he is still not the finished product that Bournemouth need.

Suffice to say, Bournemouth should hold on to Callum Wilson at all costs. Chelsea definitely have the financial muscle to prise him away from the Vitality Stadium but Bournemouth should not leave any stone unturned in their efforts to keep him at the club.
