Kessie has established himself as one of the hottest properties in the Serie A, excelling in Milan’s midfield three alongside the likes of Bakayoko and Lucas Paqueta. The 22-year-old has established himself as a regular face in Milan’s first-team since the start of the last season, accumulating eight goals and eight assists in 81 appearances across all competitions.
Standing at 6ft. with a stocky and sinewy frame, he is regarded as an all-action midfielder with plenty of drive, determination and strength, who is comfortable in central and defensive roles in the middle of the park. While he presents himself as a robust and dominating figure, the Ivorian excels with his fine technique as well, allowing him to run comfortably with the ball at his feet.
Kessie is quite fast, agile and fleet-footed for a central midfielder. The 25-year-old combines his skill-sets with technical abilities to embark on powerful runs through the centre of the pitch. To add to that, he is a very good in dictating the tempo of the game with his flawless passing and immaculate distribution. Furthermore, he is adept at breaking up the play with crucial tackles and interceptions, often playing as a sweeper for the rearguard.
To put things into perspective, he would be a good fit for Maurizio Sarri’s style philosophy at Chelsea. In fact, a strong and technically-gifted midfielder like Franck Kessie may help the Blues get the best out of Jorginho.
Now, it is necessary to mention that Jorginho is an indispensable component of Sarri’s possession-based patient build-up play. He acts as the midfield general and initiates all the build-up play with his short passing and distribution.
N’Golo Kante has been used on the right of a midfield three, a ploy which hasn’t worked, as the Frenchman is at his best playing in the Jorginho position. This has, in turn, put more pressure on the latter as he isn’t really doing well, especially in big games when teams have figured out a way to nullify him.
For that reason, someone like Franck Kessie would be an ideal fit for the team. Whilst the Ivorian has almost the same technical qualities as Jorginho, he is a more robust player who uses his physicality to shield the ball or win back possession. Moreover, he is capable of covering a lot of ground, which might reduce the workload and the over-dependence on Sarri’s main man.

To sum it up, the acquisition of Kessie would bring that steel and stability to Chelsea’s midfield. The Ivorian would not only provide Sarri with an extra option in midfield, but he might as well make Jorginho’s impact more profound. That being said, the Blues should go all out to sign him ahead of the upcoming season.
