Two Premier League managers who could get sacked by December

With yet another Premier League season underway, we have been subjected to a lot of entertainment and shocks. While some teams have shattered expectations, others have been rather underwhelming. But with the international break upon us, let’s take a look at two managers who are early favourites to get sacked before December.

1. Manuel Pellegrini

The 64-year-old Chilean took over the reins from David Moyes in the summer but he has been unable to change his team’s fortunes despite bringing in reinforcements. With four losses from their first four games, West Ham United are currently at the bottom of the table and they could be in for another tough season.

Pellegrini’s summer signings Issa Diop, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko have shown signs of promise but the manager has failed to unite the team. With the team not gelling well together, they have often looked like a bunch of individuals playing a game of their own.

The manager deserves criticism since the players seem to run out of gas after half-time. He has not made any changes to his formation and is yet to experiment with team dynamics.

To make matters worse, Pellegrini has not favoured young players at all. West Ham have the likes of Declan Rice and Reece Oxford, both of whom are promising prospects. Even though players like Angelo Ogbonna, Pablo Zabaleta and Fabio Balbuena have been below par, Pellegrini continues to include them in the starting line-up.

However, West Ham do have certain positives to take from their defeats and Pellegrini must keep his team motivated to resurrect his campaign. While a top-half finish looks unlikely, a mid-table spot should not be beyond their grasp.

It is too early to make a call but the Chilean might find himself sacked if the lacklustre results continue for too long.

2. Jose Mourinho

Manchester United’s 3-2 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion, followed by the 3-0 humiliation at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, ensured criticism came thick and fast for Jose Mourinho. However, the 2-0 win over Burnley last weekend should give the manager some breathing space.

Mourinho has been guilty of constantly tinkering with his starting line-up. He hasn’t allowed his players to settle down and his ideas have often backfired. The Portuguese manager has also utilized a few of his players in unfamiliar positions, leading to bizarre consequences.

Mourinho has underused players like Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford and has been too rigid with his tactics. The current set of players can flourish under a flexible and free-flowing style of play but the manager hasn’t looked too bothered about that. Instead, he has continued in his merry way and the club are suffering the consequences.

Since Burnley are not the strongest team United will face this season, Mourinho’s position remains unchanged despite the win. However, he must aim to inspire United on a more consistent basis. But failing to do so, could lead to the board pulling the trigger eventually.
