In 1987 he went to Japan to play for NJPW, IWGP. He is a member of the Hart Family. He broke into WWF as The Blue Blazer, and in his first match, he defeated Terry Gibbs and then defeated Steve Lombardi and Barry Horowitz.
The Blue Blazer made his first pay-per-view debut by teaming with The Ultimate Warrior, Brutus Beefcake, Jim Bronze, and Sam Houston against The Honky Tonk Man, Greg Valentine, Outlaw Ron Bass, Bad News Brown, and Dangerous Danny Davis. His team went on to win the match.
Owen won his first WWF Intercontinental Championship against Rocky Maivia after forming the Hart Foundation, which meant that the Hart Foundation has won every WWF title except the WWF Championship.
Hart went on to win many championships. He was a one-time USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion, a two-time WWF Intercontinental Champion, and a four-time WWF World Tag Team Champion. He was also the winner of the 1994 King of the Ring.
Owen is widely regarded as one of the best in-ring performers in the WWF’s company.
Owen played his last match on April 5, 1999, with his teammate Jarrett where he lost the title to the team of Kane and X-Pac just a month before his unfortunate death during the Over the Edge pay-per-view event.
On May 7, 1965, Owen was born in Calgary, Alberta, into the Hart wrestling family and was the youngest child of Stu and Helen Hart.
Hart married Joan Patterson on July 1, 1989, and had two children together named Oje Edward Hart and Athena Christie hart, both born in a difference of three years.
On May 23, 1999, an unfortunate incident happened when Hart fell to his death in Kansas City, Missouri, during the Over the Edge pay-per-view event. This incident occurred when Hart, in his entrance, was in the process of being lowered via harness and grapple line into the ring from the rafters of Kemper Arena.
He would generally realize himself from the safety harness and fall flat on his face for comedic effect. This is a quick-release mechanism. It was an elaboration of his stunt done previously on Sunday Night Heat before Survivor Series in 1998.
But this time, when he performed the stunt while being lowered into the ring, Hart fell from 78 feet and landed on his Chest on the top rope, almost a foot from the nearest turnbuckle throwing him into the ring.
Hart was transported to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, he had suffered many internal injuries, and the doctor couldn’t revive him. The cause of his death was internal bleeding from blunt force trauma. He was just 34 years old.
WWF gave the Hart family US$18 million as case settlement fees after over a year and a half on November 2, 2000.
