Pablo Carreno Busta Career

Pablo Carreno Busta had a good junior career and ranked as high as number 6 in the combined junior world rankings in February 2009. Subsequently, Carreno Busta declared himself pro in 2009.

Carreno Busta’s first appearance in an ATP Tour tournament was at the 2011 Barcelona Open but he lost in the first round. Further, in 2013, Carreño Busta participated in his first-ever grand slam tournament when he was a qualifier at the 2013 French Open. However, despite winning three qualification matches, Carreno Busta lost to Roger Federer in straight sets in the opening round.

In August 2016, Carreno Busta finally won his first-ever ATP singles title at the 2016 Winston-Salem Open, defeating Roberto Bautista Agut in the final. Also, he entered the top 40 of the ATP Rankings for the first time as a result, becoming then-world No. 39.

The season of 2017 was a breakthrough year for Carreno Busta. He had very strong results in 2017. Carreño Busta reached his first ATP 500 final at the 2017 Rio Open but lost the final against Dominic Thiem. Nevertheless, Carreno Busta won the Rio Open doubles title with Pablo Cuevas.

In the 2017 US Open, Carreno Busta made it to the semifinal but then lost against Kevin Anderson. By the end of 2017, his ranking was No. 10.

Carreno Busta missed a significant amount of time in the 2019 season due to injury. However, Carreño Busta won his fourth ATP title at the Chengdu Open defeating Alexander Bublik in the final.
