As Pacific Drive swooshes its way into the Playstation 5, here’s everything you need to know about this twist of a game.
The timing of Pacific Drive couldn’t be more ideal. The upcoming game, which is scheduled to release on February 22, just might be what fulfills our yearning. The idea is completely original: players take a dilapidated station wagon on a paranormal road trip across the Pacific Northwest.
Players had kept a close eye on its progress, but gamers were not entirely sure what to anticipate in terms of tone. It’s really eerie. Check out more games coming to PS5.
Pacific Drive Overview
We believe there are numerous ways to characterize Pacific Drive. It’s similar to an extraction looter in that you fall into terrible environments and attempt to find valuable items on your way out. It’s akin to the novel Roadside Picnic, which follows scavengers exploring an unusual wilderness that has been completely altered by passing aliens, and the iconic Steam outsider art piece My Summer Car, which tells the story of constructing and maintaining a real junker and then driving it into the woods.
These are all excellent approaches to the game, but I find it to be lot more straightforward and exciting. A string of unfortunate events just waiting to happen to you is Pacific Drive.
Even while Pacific Drive isn’t a strictly horror game, its opening moments create a spooky mood that frequently had me bouncing out of my seat. Though its intricate craftsmanship and endless plundering haven’t won me over, it’s establishing a strong enough initial impression for me to stick with it for the long run.
Pacific Drive Background
Because the anomalies are unpredictable, every run will be different. You won’t be able to return to a previously visited area too soon without encountering more turmoil. You’ll discover shortcuts as you go along, which will make failing seem less like a sinkhole and more like a speed bump on subsequent runs.
Players can witness earthen pillars emerging from the earth, lightning strikes striking the road during thunderstorms, heaps of radioactive trash, enormous razor blades, and spores—intriguing little organisms the crew called. These evil spores were there to complicate the drive, but the world’s more obvious threats were still perilous.
The spores have torn the panels, doors, and other parts off the station wagon multiple times, like a child disassembling their least favorite toy, or they will yank the automobile about as if it were made of paper.
Pacific Drive Gameplay Loop
Pacific Drive makes a point of stressing its survival components. Apart from your personal well-being, you also need to take care of your car’s gasoline and battery, and make sure you have enough supplies on hand for any necessary repairs, such as rubber to make a spare tire in case one gets damaged or stolen. It will be the difference between a semi-chaotic drive and a disastrous one to plan for every possible scenario.
Luckily, there’s a mystery trash pile outside your garage with enough supplies to get you back in the game if you find yourself low on supplies after a botched run. The makers offer a plethora of accessibility options to personalize the experience for those who choose not to engage with survival components, allowing you to still enjoy the tale.
Players are eager to see how the complete release grows upon such a strong foundation since Pacific Drive is building up to be a suspenseful race against time and the unknown, interspersed with serene periods where it’s just the player and their car getting ready to take on the world.
