Two of the most in-form players at the moment, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Holger Rune, will lock horns in the semifinals of the Paris Masters on Saturday.
The young Canadian is only a couple of wins away from bagging his fourth consecutive title. He is currently on a 16-match winning streak.
Felix Auger-Aliassime began his campaign in Bercy in the second round after being awarded a first-round bye. In the second round, he had to dig deep to get past Mikael Ymer in a three-set affair. The round of 16 saw Auger-Aliassime ease past Gilles Simon in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, the 22-year-old made light work of Frances Tiafoe and ousted the American in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
The 19-year-old missed out against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the finals of the Basel Open but he would hope to avenge that loss this time.
Rune began his campaign against veteran Stan Wawrinka. The youngster came back from a set down and saved three match points to defeat Wawrinka 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). In the round of 32, Rune defeated the 10th seed, Hubert Hurkacz, in a relatively one-sided affair. The first set was competitive but Rune dominated the second set and won the match 7-5, 6-1. In the round of 16, Rune picked up another huge win by going past Andrey Rublev in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. This win set up an intriguing clash for Rune in the finals against Carlos Alcaraz. The Danish sensation dominated the world No. 1 in the first set. The second set was deliciously poised at 6-6 when Alcaraz had to retire owing to an abdominal strain.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Felix Auger-Aliassime. He defeated Rune in the 2022 Basel Open final in straight sets just a few days ago.
Prediction: Felix Auger Aliassime to win in three sets.
