The world No. 33 Sebastian Korda locks horns with the world No. 25 Alex de Minaur in the first round of the Paris Masters on Monday.
The 22-year-old has been in sublime form as of late. After a slow start to the season, the youngster managed to reach back-to-back finals in the Gijon Open and the European Open, earlier this month.
Last year at the Paris Masters, Korda defeated Aslan Karatsev in three sets in the first round. The American youngster defeated former US Open champion Marin Cilic in straight sets in the round of 32. Korda’s promising run ended in the round of 16 as he went down fighting against an in-form Daniil Medvedev in three sets.
The Australian youngster has blown hot and cold this year. He began with a decent performance at the Australian Open as he made it to the fourth round. The 23-year-old has made it to five semifinals this year. He won the title in the Atlanta Open after defeating Jenson Brooksby in a one-sided final.
He most recently played in the Basel Open. However, he crashed out in the first round itself after losing to eventual finalist Holger Rune in straight sets. Last year at the Paris Masters, Alex de Minaur was ousted in the first round as his compatriot Alexei Popyrin outplayed him to win 6-0, 6-3.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Sebastian Korda. He defeated de Minaur in four sets at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Prediction: Sebastian Korda to win in three sets.
