No. 5 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas squares off against British No. 2 Dan Evans in the round of 32 of the Paris Masters on Wednesday.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
The 24-year-old received a first-round bye. He has had a good season thus far. Tsitsipas reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and the final in Rotterdam. He won his first title of the season at the Monte-Carlo Masters, a tournament he entered as the defending champion. His second title of the season came in the Mallorca Open, where he defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the final. In the Italian Open and the Cincinnati Masters, Tsitsipas finished runner-up. He reached two consecutive finals in Astana and Stockholm but failed to win the crown.
Tsitsipas is coming into the tournament on the back of an exit in the round of 16 at the Vienna Open. He lost to Borna Coric in three sets. Last year’s Paris Masters campaign for Tsitsipas ended on an unfortunate note when he was forced to retire during his match in the round of 32 against Alexei Popyrin owing to an arm injury.
Dan Evans
The senior statesman came into the tournament on the back of an exit in the quarterfinals of the Vienna Open. He lost to eventual runner-up Denis Shapovalov in straight sets. Last year at the Paris Masters, Evans was ousted by Alexander Bublik in three sets.
The 32-year-old began his campaign in the 2022 Paris Masters against Brandon Nakashima. After winning the first set with relative ease, Evans failed to build on the momentum in the second set. The match went into the decisive third set which Evans won to eventually come out unscathed with the scoreline of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 3-0 in favor of Stefanos Tsitsipas. He defeated Evans in the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters in straight sets in the semifinals.
Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in straight sets.
