Pat McAfee and Dominik Mysterio made their PPV debuts and the pair killed it over the weekend
This was a special weekend for WWE as NXT had its TakeOver special while SummerSlam was also held.
WWE also brought out ThunderDome in a bit to bring fans closer to the action. That might have been a bit hit or miss but credit to them for trying something.
Nevertheless, there was a lot of crazy action over the week with some jaw-dropping moments. WWE certainly hit the ball out of the park in some cases and here are some of the best moments from the week.
Dominik Mysterio had a tough clash against Seth Rollins for SummerSlam. However, he got some revenge on the Messiah just before the big clash.
Rey, Dominik’s father, and his son were able to catch hold of Rollins. While Rollins had brutally attacked Dominik with the kendo sticks a week back, it was the youngster who got some payback, and this was the perfect father and son activity it seems.
Bray Wyatt is no more after Braun Strowman tossed him off into concrete. As Wyatt was taken away by the paramedics, something eerie happened. The ambulance stopped, reversed and the Fiend came out.
This could be a sign of things to come with The Fiend being in control and Wyatt a foregone conclusion. It was also a brilliant moment to end SmackDown and prepare for SummerSlam.
Johnny Gargano was lucky to survive a horrible fall on his neck on NXT. However, things became worse for him at TakeOver: XXX.
Candice LeRae always has a spot at TakeOver but she didn’t get it right for her husband this time. Bronson Reed was on top of the ladder during the NXT North American title match and LeRae tried to stop him.
The Aussie decided to take out Gargano as he splashed from the top of the ring, and Gargano was the victim of a double splash.
There were concerns over how Pat McAfee would fare against Adam Cole at TakeOver. While McAfee is a former NFL kicker, celebrities have struggled to perform in WWE.
However, McAfee came trained and flew through the air.
The former NFL star was possibly the best celebrity performer in a WWE ring, even though he was unable to get a win.
The biggest shock of the week saw Roman Reigns make his WWE return at SummerSlam. The Big Dog had been out since WrestleMania but this was the perfect return for him.
Reigns seemed to turn heel in all this and took out Strowman and The Fiend after their clash. The Big Dog will take on The Fiend for the Universal title and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.
