Patric Ewing Basketball Career

College Career

Patric Ewing played for Georgetown Hoyas in his freshman years, where he had his 1st encounter against the future superstar Michael Jordan in NCAA Finals’ 1982. It was the appearance of the first-ever final for the team and Patric had a major role in it. Georgetown lost the match to the final heroic shot by Michael Jordan, but the game was dubbed as one of the greatest in NCAA finals history.

Patric Ewing or big Pat as famously known was 1st pick of the 1985 draft. He was awarded a direct 10-year contract by New York Knicks, 1st time ever seen in NBA history that a rookie got such a lengthy contract. NY Times had mentioned it as the “tremendous contract of that time or any time”. Even before the Pick Pat O’Brien, famous author, and NBA sportscaster had announced that New York will now have “Ewing era”.

New York had the best chance in playoffs in the 1994 season when they won the Eastern Conference by beating favorites Pacers and faced Houston Rockets in the finals. But another big man of the NBA Hakeem Olajuwon got better of Ewing in 7 game series.

Despite retiring from the NBA playing career, he was with several NBA teams as an assistant coach. He started his coaching career in 2003 where he was an assistant coach at Houston Rockets. He was an assistant coach for Orlando Magic also in their 2008 finals appearance. Later Ewing was with the Charlotte Bobcats in 2013.

Currently, Ewing Is the head coach for the college basketball team Georgetown Hoyas.

Patric Ewing is married to Rita Williams in 1990. They have 3 children Patric Ewing Jr, Correy Ewing, Randi Ewing. After brief 9 years of marriage, Patric Ewing and his wife got divorced in 1998. Jr tried his luck in NBA but couldn’t succeed like his father.

Patric was seen in the entertainment industry also, making appearances in various sitcoms like “Spin City”, “Webster”, “Herman’s Head” and “Mad About You”. He was also seen in the comedy movie “Space Jam” with other NBA legends like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and Larry Bird. He also had a silent cameo in “The Exorcist” movie.

Additionally, he was co-writer for the “Paint” book. The book particularly teaches children how to paint.
