Patrick Beverley correctly predicted that he was going to get the “book” thrown at home by the NBA over the shoving incident that the Los Angeles Lakers star recently got involved in.
The Los Angeles Lakers went up against the Phoenix Suns in their latest game on Tuesday. The Lakers traveled to the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix and were defeated by the home side in a 115-105 win – however, it was Lakers guard Patrick Beverley who made the most headlines as he got into a shoving incident with DeAndre Ayton.
It was during the game against the Suns that Austin Reaves took his chance for a three pointer, but was thwarted and was denied again when he tried to get into the paint and get a shot away. When DeAndre Ayton was standing over Reeves on the floor and was trying to get in his head, Beverley appeared out of nowhere and pushed him in the back – causing Ayton to bundle over.
In the league’s statement, attributed to executive vice president and head of basketball operations Joe Dumars, the suspension was explained as being “based in part on Beverley’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.” The suspension is without pay and will cost him $268,965, per ESPN insider Bobby Marks – but it turns out that Beverley had already predicted his punishment.

It turns out that Patrick Beverley predicted his predicament when he spoke to the press following the Lakers’ defeat to the Suns.
Following the game, Beverley said he was “for sure” concerned that the league would discipline him for his actions and added that he would accept the punishment that was meted out. “Very unprofessional by myself. Definitely could have reacted in a different way,” the former Minnesota Timberwolves guard said. “I’m a big boy. I’ll take my lumps however they come.”
Beverley will miss the Lakers’ games on the road against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday and Saturday and also their home game on Monday against the Indiana Pacers.
