Patty Smyth: Personal Life
Patty Smyth was born on June 26, 1957, in New York City, New York, USA. Her mother worked as a trapeze artist and one-time manager for legendary rock ‘n’ roll guitarist Link Wray. She also ran several famous nightclubs in Greenwich Village.
When Patty Smyth was just 5 years old, she was fascinated by songs and loved to sing. By the time she was 7 years old, Smyth began taking singing lessons. She went to a local high school and practised both her acting and singing skills over there.
Smyth performed for the first time on stage at the age of 15 at New York’s Folk City. She worked as a waitress in a steak house to support herself.

In 1981, she joined the rock band, Scandal, which became quite popular after releasing their self-titled debut EP in 1982. Their first full-length album – “The Warrior” was released in 1984 and it was also appreciated immensely by the fans.
Patty began her solo career after the dissolution of Scandal in the mid-1980s. Before starting her solo career though, she rejected an offer to join a band named Van Halen as she was pregnant In 1987, she released her first solo album – “Never Enough”.
She secured a hit record via a duet with Don Henley of the Eagles, titled ” Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough”. This peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold for sales of 500,000.
Smyth co-wrote the 1994 song “Look What Love Has Done” along with James Ingram and it was included in the soundtrack of a feature film named Junior. The song got nominated for a Grammy and an Academy Award. The category for nomination in the Grammy Award was Best Song Written for Visual Media while the Academy Award nomination was for Best Original Song.
In 2004, she reunited with Scandal. VH1 recruited Smyth and the remaining members of Scandal for a Bands Reunited episode. They debuted their first single as a band on January 17, 2009, after over 24 years, in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Smyth was married to Richard Hell in 1985-86 before meeting John McEnroe. She has a daughter named Ruby from her marriage with Richard.
