Manchester United Opinion: Why Man United must go for Carlos Rodriguez?

Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Monterrey midfielder Carlos Rodriguez. The club’s scouts were spotted talking to Mexican’s agent, claims Mexican outlet Los Pleyers.

Carlos Rodriguez, 22, helped Monterrey win the Central and North American version of the Champions League earlier this year. And his fine performances also saw him earn his first cap for Mexico in March. It looks as if Manchester United are interested in the midfielder, who is regarded as a fine young talent.

Manchester United are keen to make signings as the summer transfer window has officially open. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he wants the new additions recruited before July 1.

After a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League, Solskjaer will try to overhaul his squad and make changes that will enable the Reds to challenge higher up the table next campaign.

The recruitment since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure has been very poor and Solskjaer has to start getting it absolutely spot on from this summer.

The Red Devils’ policy of signing world-class players for huge money has not worked according to the scripts for half a decade now. The United manager must change it and go back to the basics; i.e. sign young, hungrier talents to rebuild his squad.

While strengthening the defence has to be United’s first and foremost priority, Solskjaer also needs to buy a couple of midfielders.

Thus, a player like Carlos Rodriguez would be a welcome addition for the Red Devils. The 22-year-old is an unknown quantity but fits the profile of Solskjaer’s liking for a young, promising midfielder.

He is a central midfielder by trade, known for his passing range, ability to dictate the tempo of the game as well as break up opposition’s play.

The one-cap Mexico international possesses the ability to cover ground and initiate attacks from the middle of the park. All in all, his overall game makes him better than what Manchester United have at the moment, especially with Herrera’s departure.

Verdict

Hence, it would make sense for United to take a punt on Rodriguez in the summer transfer window.
