Petr Yan MMA career and UFC record

Petr Yan made his MMA debut on the 20th of December, 2014 at the Siberian League: Baikal Cup 2014.

He took on Murad Bakiev and won the fight via. KO in the third round. Yan then took on Renato Velame and won via. unanimous decision.

By the end of 2015, Yan was 5-0 up in his MMA career.

The Russian then suffered his first-ever loss at the hands of Magomed Magomedov at ACB 32: The Battle of Lions.

Yan bounced back with three successive wins that included winning the ACB Bantamweight Championship, and a rematch win over Magomedov.

Yan then joined the UFC. He made his UFC debut on the 23rd of June, 2018, against Teruto Ishihara at UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs Edwards.

Yan won his debut UFC fight via. first-round KO. Following five back-to-back wins that included wins against John Dodson and Urijah Faber, Yan took on Jose Aldo for the vacant bantamweight championship.

In the fifth round of his fight against Jose Aldo at UFC 251 in July 2020, Yan earned a TKO win to win the championship.

His reign did not last long as it ended controversially against Aljamain Sterling. An illegal knee from Yan resulted in a disqualification for the Russian and the title being handed to Sterling. In the rematch, he lost to Sterling again.

Yan’s MMA record reads 16 wins and 4 losses.

He will face off against Merab Dvalishvili in his next fight on March 12, 2023.

Petr Yan was born on the 11th of February, 1993 in Dudinka, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. Not much is known about his parents.
