The Swedish Star turned Japanese local PewDiePie is known for his pre-recorded engaging content on YouTube and is one of the biggest global stars on the platform. However, PewDiePie rose to this massive fame due to his major popularity on YouTube.
Who is PewDiePie?
If you are wondering what is PewDiePie’s real name it’s Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg. He is married to Marzia Kjellberg and is expecting their first child together. He is quite open about their pregnancy on social media and keeps his followers updated about it quite often.
PewDiePie started his YouTube channel called Pewdie back in 2006. He had forgotten the password to his channel which led him to create his 2nd and current YouTube channel PewDiePie in 2010. He got many followers for his hilarious content on games like Minecraft and horror games such as Amnesia The Dark Descent. By 2012 he had a massive fan base of over one million subscribers and he had an exponential growth for his channel. By August 2013 he surpassed Smosh and became the most subscribed Youtuber globally. The channel grew to fame and he began to expand into a variety of content. He even started producing humans sketches, parade music videos, and news recaps for his massive army of subscribers
PewDiePie has a roaring 111 million subscribers on his YouTube channel as of May 2023 and has been a former No.1 Youtuber in the world until recently his record was taken over by the Indian YouTube channel T-Series in 2019. However, the Swedish Youtuber still boasts billions of views on his YouTube channel.
PewDiePie Controversy
The YouTube star has also been a part of many controversial remarks due to anti-Semitic comments in his videos. Yet again he has come to the spotlight as PewDiePie’s Twitch account has faced a ban. Fans have been wondering what led to this. Has his controversial past affected his Twitch account in any way? Here is a few of his major controversial events that could have led to this.
PewDiePie came under controversy for using anti-Semitic jokes and images in some of his videos at the beginning of 2017. These incidents involved paying people to display posters with anti-Semitic inscriptions on the freelance website Fiverr. Due to this, PewDiePie’s contract with Disney’s Maker Studios was terminated, and YouTube canceled the second season of his YouTube Red show.
Another controversy is during a gaming session on a live stream in September 2017, PewDiePie used a racial slur that sparked outrage from the community at large and viewers.
To keep his position as the most subscribed YouTuber in 2018, PewDiePie clashed publicly with the Indian record label T-Series. Due to this conflict, some supporters used dubious methods, such as hacking websites and disseminating hate speech.
It’s worth noting that PewDiePie has apologized for some of these controversies and expressed regret for his actions. However, these incidents have contributed to ongoing debates and discussions about the responsibilities of content creators, the boundaries of humor, and the potential influence they have on their audiences.
PewDiePie Twitch History
PewDiePie reappeared on Twitch in March after being inactive on the platform for the longest time. After his appearance for over a month now his account faced a sudden ban. However, the reasons for it are unannounced but many fans are speculating that the reason behind his ban on Twitch could be due to one of his VODs. Even though he had his Twitch account he wasn’t active on it for years until March. He started airing episodes of the Canadian sitcom trailer park boys.
It was very confusing for fans at first given his surprise appearance on the platform many thought that his account got hacked. However, it was the work of co-pilot media which is a distribution and monitorization service that used the footage to test a planned rollout of PewDiePie Infinity that would stream a loop of PewDiePie’s videos.
PewDiePie’s Twitch account started streaming an unending loop of his earlier videos under the name “PewDiePie Infinity” after hacking rumors were debunked. During this period there was much interesting content uploaded on the platform to hold the interest of the fans. The fans were able to share their thoughts on the channel’s live chat because the YouTuber had uploaded over 3,000 hours of content to his channel.
Few Pewdiepie supporters even speculated that YouTube’s more permissive content guidelines may have been the reason for his ban on the platform. This means that what’s allowed on Youtube may not be allowed on Twitch.
Some also believe that the ban took place due to his video of the infamous bridge incident in which PewDiePie used the N-word in his PUBG video. As Twitch is very strict with its conditions and imposes a temporary ban or permanent ban if any of these guidelines are violated, these incidents might have resulted in his platform being banned. These rules could have prevented the megastar YouTuber from being banned.
- Hateful Conduct and Harassment: Twitch has a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment, hate speech, and any form of discrimination based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. This includes both on-stream behavior and chat interactions.
- Violence and Threats: Twitch prohibits any content that promotes or glorifies violence, self-harm, or encourages harm toward others. This includes real-world violence and threats made on the platform.
- Copyright Infringement: Streamers are expected to respect copyright laws and avoid broadcasting content they don’t have permission to use.
- Impersonation and Privacy: Twitch prohibits impersonation of others, invading privacy, or sharing personal information without consent.
- Cheating and Exploits: Twitch discourages cheating in games or exploiting bugs or glitches for personal gain.
Given that his content has been recycled following his reappearance on Twitch which has content violating these guidelines, it could have led to his ban.
PewDiePie Twitch ban
PewDiePie’s Twitch account has been banned on the Amazon-owned streaming platform on May 8th. His Twitch channel has now been removed from the platform and many are anticipating it is because of the nature of this replay-based broadcast or something else entirely.
Fan’s Reaction to PewDiePie’s Twitch Ban
Following the ban, many fans are already rooting for PewDiePie and believe that Twitch is wrong in banning the Streamer. While there are others who believe that the reason for his ban is justified given his offensive content in some videos from the past. Here are some comments by the fans on social media.
However, the YouTube star has not reacted to this incident publically as of now. He is now more focused on his YouTube content and with his 1st child on the way, acknowledging the situation of his Twitch ban does not seem like his priority at the moment. It is unclear if this is a temporary suspension or a permanent ban of his account on Twitch. We will keep you posted when there are more updates about the same.
