Earlier on Monday, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz were spotted training together on a clay court prior to their respective Madrid Open matches.
The main draw for the 2022 Madrid Open will see Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz in the same quarter among other things. But ahead of their Round of 32 games, Djokovic and Alcaraz were all smiles as they trained together on clay.
The two tennis stars were in good spirits and were involved in quite an intense training session as well. After greeting each other and playing a bit of tennis, Alcaraz revealed that the Serb was leading their practice match 6-1, 1-2 before they decided to stop.
Here are some photos of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz training ahead of their Madrid Open matches tomorrow:
Djokovic will commence his Madrid Open by locking horns with Gael Monfils on Tuesday. The 20-time Grand Slam winner has never lost to Monfils in 17 attempts, coming out victorious in all of their encounters. But Djokovic has played only three tournaments this year and he is yet to win a title in 2022. The 34-year old suffered defeat at the Serbia Open final against Andrey Rublev.
On the other hand, Alcaraz will begin the Madrid Open by facing off against Nikoloz Basilashvili in the round of 32 on Tuesday. Alcaraz has faced Basilashvili only once before in his career and prevailed against the Georgian. The Spaniard is tipped as one of the favourites to win the Madrid Open this year and will be hoping to get his fourth title of the year.
