Tucker played college basketball for the University of Texas from 2003 to 2006. Tucker had an excellent college career and was subsequently named a second-team All-American and the Big 12 Player of the Year (2006). He was also named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team (2004).
After playing college basketball, Tucker was selected thirty-fifth overall in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. He signed a two-year deal with the Raptors on July 26, 2006.
