8. Super Meat Boy
Super Meat Boy is a hard platformer in which you play as an animated cube of meat attempting to save his lover (made of bandages) from an evil foetus in a jar dressed in a tux. Our beefy hero will leap across buzz saw seas, into crumbling caves, and into pools of old needles. Putting his own health on the line to help his damsel in distress. Super Meat Boy recreates the original NES difficulties of Mega Man 2, Ghost & Goblins, and Super Mario Brothers 2. On his quest to learn about his people’s history, Abe will encounter trigger-happy hunting parties, ferocious holy monsters, old temple traps, and even a return to his former profession.
6. Braid
Braid is a painterly puzzle platformer in which the player manipulates the flow of time in odd and unique ways. To save an abducted princess, go to a number of realms and solve riddles from a city home. You have a different power to influence how time acts in each universe, and it is time’s strangeness that produces the puzzles. The capacity to rewind, items that are immune to rewinding, time that is related to space, parallel universes, time dilation, and maybe more are among the time behaviors. Rayman’s assistance is sought by the Fairy Council in order to rescue the day. Rayman is helped by his best friend Globox and two clever wizards known as the Teensies. Before their beloved home is destroyed, the world’s most funny team of heroes sets out to restore peace to the Glade. Four-player jump-in-and-jump-out co-op is supported in Rayman Origins. With over 100 characters, 12 separate worlds, and over 60 levels of platforming gameplay built for all ages and play types, the game offers a large universe to explore.
3. Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight is an epic tale about a knight who travels out into the world with his beloved shovel in his hand. The game is a fantastic blend of a classic 2D platformer, an action game, and a role-playing game. The hero travels across several locations, confronts villains, and solves simple riddles during his quest.
2. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Will of the Wisps, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular Ori and the Blind Forest, take the stunning beauty and atmospheric heaviness of its predecessor to new heights. As you assist Ori in his war against the forces of evil, combat has been enhanced, and there are even more skills to wield. Both of these games are more metroidvanias than simple platformers, with a lot of backtracking and a lot of skills to unlock. Will of the Wisps features less platforming than Blind Forest, with a greater emphasis on hard boss fights.
1. Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight is, above all, a game that encourages an old-school mentality, often to an exasperating degree. To receive the map of each of its twisty-turning zones, you must find a nebbish cartographer, which encourages endless exploration. And, like Symphony of the Night before it, no health gauge is provided for any monster in the game, forcing you to guess how much blood you’ve spilled on a target, even for difficult bosses. There’s an enticing world full of hidden treasures and mysterious figures to be delved into for those who can stomach these retro touches.
