Pokemon Legends Arceus – A Complete Guide to Mass Outbreaks

Published by

Find out how to capture carefree, skittish, and aggressive Pokemon in our Mass Outbreak guide. Mass Outbreaks can also spawn shiny Pokemon!

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a game in which the player is rewarded for filling out their Pokedex. It’s not like other games where all you have to do is catch one Pokemon and then go on to the next. Since there are no randomized encounters, you must occasionally catch multiples of the same species in order to proceed. Mass Outbreaks, on the other hand, can help you fill your Pokedex and level up your star levels.

It turns out that your odds of catching a shiny Pokémon increase dramatically during a Mass Outbreak. Thanks to Mass Outbreaks, I’ve already caught four shiny Pokémon. Let’s get started because there’s a lot to cover.

What are Mass Outbreaks in Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Mass Outbreaks are irregular occurrences in a region that result in a spike in the spawn rate of a specific Pokemon. Outbreaks happen in specific areas of a region. When a Mass Outbreak happens, a circular icon of the Mass Outbreak Pokemon will appear on the map of that region. You can identify the area where the Mass Outbreak is occurring by zooming onto the map of that region.

The Galaxy Team security guard at the exit of Jubilife Village warns players of a mass outbreak. A symbol will be displayed next to the Pokemon that is having an outbreak. The outbreak will dissipate if the player moves to a different location. Players can, however, enter an outbreak area, return to Jubilife Village, and then return to it.

How to find Mass Outbreak Pokemon

When you enter the Mass Outbreak location, you’ll notice that several of the same kind of Pokemon are all spawning in that limited space. The outbreaks normally last a few minutes and result in the appearance of approximately a dozen Mass Outbreak Pokemon. When entering places where the Mass Outbreak Pokemon are an aggressive species, exercise caution. It’s easy to become overwhelmed when there are so many ‘mons packed into such a small space.

After leaving Jubilife Village, it’s possible that more than one outbreak will occur. When you arrive in the region, an icon appears on the map to indicate which Pokemon will be present during the outbreak. The number of Pokemon that appear as a result of an outbreak appears to fluctuate depending on the species and how quickly the player can progress through the spawned Pokemon, although the limit appears to be eight.

Mass outbreak Pokemon aren’t always more powerful or unique than those found in the open world. A Mass Outbreak simply gives you the opportunity to catch multiples of the same Pokemon. Use Mass Outbreaks to finish research objectives that require battling or catching specific Pokemon.

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, mass outbreaks are not only a wonderful way to easily collect Pokemon for the Pokedex, but they’re also the best way to find shiny Pokemon.

Pokemon from mass outbreaks are more than 25 times more likely to be shiny than those found in the wild, and this number rises to 32 times if the player possesses a fully completed Pokedex entry and a Shiny Charm for the Pokemon. While players are unlikely to complete the Pokedex entry for every single Pokemon, under ideal circumstances, an outbreak has an 8% chance of including a shiny.

Tips for catching Pokemon during a Mass Outbreak

If you see a Mass Outbreak icon on the global map, make sure you have plenty of Poké Balls on hand and get over to it as soon as possible because they don’t last long. If many Mass Outbreaks are available, it is recommended that you choose the one for which you have a higher Dex entry, as this increases your chances of getting a shiny, or simply choose the Pokémon you want.

  • Carefree Pokemon: During a Mass Outbreak, Pokémon like Bidoof are the easiest to catch. Simply approach them and begin continuously flinging your best Poké Balls at them. The more you capture, the more spawn, increasing your chances of getting a shine. Poké Balls or Great Balls are a solid choice here.
  • Skittish Pokemon: Hide in tall grass and throw Poké Balls at the Mass Outbreak Pokemon as many times as you can without being detected. Feather Balls, Wing Balls, and Jet Balls are your best buddies in this game because they can be hurled far and keep your cover.
  • Aggressive Pokemon: Make sure you have a lot of stunning items on hand, such as Mud Balls, Spoiled Apricorns, and Snow Balls. Throw Poké Balls at the Mass Outbreak Pokemon from a safe distance. If a Pokémon attacks, try to catch it by throwing a stunning item at it. If you pass out, you may be able to return to the Mass Outbreak and continue catching Pokémon until the event is over. To catch these ‘mons, you’ll need to use more heavy-duty Ultra Balls or something similar.

After a while, you’ll get a notification on your screen that says, “The reported Pokémon seem to be gone…”, indicating that the Mass Outbreak is over.

How to trigger a Mass Outbreak

Mass Outbreaks, as far as we can determine, occur at random. But, If you move between regions, you are more likely to trigger one. So, if you go to Obsidian Field, then return to Jubilife Village and check the map to see whether anything has spawned, for example. If nothing has changed, go somewhere else, then come back to Jubilife Village and check the map again.
