Predicted Liverpool XI to face Atalanta in the Champions League

Liverpool return to Champions League action as they face Atalanta in the third group stage game. The Reds have put some early season jitters behind them and are on a 4-game winning streak, which includes wins over Ajax and Midtjylland in the Champions League.

The surprise package from last season, Atalanta have also been very impressive so far. They have won and drawn their last two Champions League games. They will be upbeat about taking the game to the English champions.

Team News

Virgil Van Dijk’s ACL injury means that he could well be out for the season. Fabinho is also on the treatment table but isn’t very far from a return. Joel Matip might not be risked for this one. Thiago, Kostas Tsimikas and Naby Keita are doubts for the game. Also, Oxlade-Chamberlain still remains out.

Probable Liverpool XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Alisson (GK)

It was a rather surprising sight to see Alisson back with the gloves, given he was expected to be out for a bit. Nonetheless, fans will be happy that he has taken over from Adrian.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)

Slowly looking to turn things around with more assured displays. Still not quite at the levels we are used to seeing him operate in.

Joe Gomez (CB)

There will be a lot riding on the youngster as he remains the only senior centre-back in the side. Needs to step up in the absence of senior centre-backs.

Rhys Williams (CB)

With defensive options dry, Rhys Williams is the only choice for Klopp. The academy graduate is likely to start this one too, as Nathaniel Phillips is not registered for the competition.

Andrew Robertson (LB)

Perhaps not back to his best yet but looks to be getting there slowly.

Still a vital member of the team. Brings loads of energy on to the pitch whenever he is there.

James Milner (CM)

Milner might be given a start given how important this clash is. Replaces youngster Curtis Jones from the weekend.

Jordan Henderson (CDM)

The whole team will be looking at Henderson for inspiration. He will have to rally his troops if they are to grab a win.

Mohamed Salah (RW)

Mo Salah just keeps scoring, win, lose or draw. The Egyptian is on a good scoring streak and will hope to continue in the same vein.

Roberto Firmino (CF)

Firmino really needs to start getting in more among the goals and assists after being involved in just the last 10 minutes of the Champions League clash.

Sadio Mane (LW)

Mane’s impact cannot be understated. The Senegal man is one of the hardest working forwards and will be eager to get on the pitch again.
