Predicted Chelsea XI to face Rennes in the Champions League
Chelsea take on Rennes in their fourth Champions League group stage game in an early Tuesday kickoff. The Blues have been in sublime form with 5 wins on the trot as they haven’t dropped a single point since the draw against Manchester United.
Rennes meanwhile are in a rut, with just one win in their last five. Rennes were haplessly thrashed aside in the reverse fixture by Chelsea as they sit at the bottom of the group.
Team News
Chelsea have some minor injury issues to deal with Christian Pulisic still out with a hamstring injury. Reece James might not feature after a knock in the Newcastle game. Elsewhere, Kai Havertz might just be a small doubt since he returns from his COVID isolation. Even Thiago Silva might be brought into the picture. There are no other major injuries to speak of.
Probable Chelsea XI vs Rennes
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Edouard Mendy (GK)
The custodian has been a very reliable presence with the gloves. Looks all set to continue in goal for the time being.
Cesar Azpilicueta (RB)
Might be brought in place of James who suffered a knock in the last game.
Thiago Silva (CB)
Will be expected to return to action after playing no part in the previous game.
Kurt Zouma (CB)
Had a great game alongside Rudiger and he might be the first choice for a while now. Looked very assured and calm.
Ben Chilwell (LB)
Ben Chilwell is the undisputed starter at left-back now, with Emerson and Alonso highly unlikely to make their way into the team.
N’Golo Kante (DM)
Kante has become one of the most important players for Chelsea again. It is good to see him back at his best.
Jorginho (DM)
Lampard’s most trusted soldier, Jorginho will be looking to continue his excellent form.
Mason Mount (CAM)
One of the few academy graduates who is still a starter in most games. Has shown that he can still cut it with the best and provides a huge amount of work rate.
Hakim Ziyech (AM)
The new man has been a treat to watch every time he has had the ball. Silky touches and a wand of a left foot. Makes the team look like much more lethal.
Tammy Abraham (ST)
The lanky academy man is still one of Lampard’s most vital players as Werner has flourished playing alongside him.
Callum Hudson-Odoi (LW)
Should get his chance with Pulisic out injured. Needs to impress in the chances that he gets.
