Predicted Manchester United XI for the game vs Brighton in the EFL Cup

It’s Manchester United vs Brighton again within a span of a few days after their Premier League encounter. Quite how Manchester United picked up 3 points will still puzzle Brighton. However, this time they square off in an EFL Cup tie. Stakes will be high as the loser gets knocked out.

United didn’t have much trouble with Luton in the previous round while Brighton also managed to ease past Preston. If Saturday’s game was anything to go by, fans might be in for another treat.

Team News

Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones remain out due to injury. Few changes will surely be expected given there is a clash versus Tottenham at the weekend. However, a few first-choice players will likely be starting given Brighton are a tougher side than Luton.

Solskjaer will have a host of players to choose from as the squad is largely fit and rested following rotation against Luton.

Probable Manchester United XI vs Brighton

Formation: 4-3-3

Dean Henderson (GK)

Henderson will be expected to start this cup game as he did the last time around. He will be hoping for another clean sheet this time.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB)

An uncharacteristically shaky performance from the usually solid defender was there on display against Brighton. A much better performance will be needed.

Eric Bailly (CB)

Bailly was expected to start in the league game but Lindelof was chosen. Nonetheless, the Ivorian will come into the fold again after his solid display against Luton.

Harry Maguire (CB)

It is highly unlikely anyone would start ahead of Maguire. The captain continues his run of games.

The youngster will also be in line to make another start after sitting out the league game.

Nemanja Matic (DM)

A rather difficult choice but Matic edges out McTominay for this one.

Fred (CM)

Fred will need to make the most of his limited chances if he is to force his way into the starting XI in an already stacked midfield.

Donny Van De Beek (AM)

The Dutchman is yet to get a start in the league but with his good run of performances, that shouldn’t be too far.

Juan Mata (RW)

Mata will also need to step up as he looked rather ineffective on the right before Greenwood came on.

Odion Ighalo (ST)

The Nigerian needs to find his scoring boots soon. Marcus Rashford had to come on for him to apply the finishing touches against Luton.

Jesse Lingard (LW)

The only reason Lingard starts ahead of Rashford is the Spurs game at the weekend. The academy graduate will be hoping to get some more minutes.
