Predicted Tottenham XI to face Southampton in the Premier League

Tottenham crashed out of the EFL Cup with a shock penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Colchester United on Wednesday and the Lilywhites will be looking to get their campaign back on track when they play host to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit 7th in the standings after going down 2-1 to Leicester City last week but they will be the outright favourites to claim all three points against the Saints.

Southampton lost 3-1 to Bournemouth in an all-South Coast affair last week and they are going to be up against it once again.

Team News

Kyle Walker-Peters is back from his spell on the sidelines but Spurs are still likely to be without the services of Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso, who are still ruled out with thigh and groin injuries respectively.

Pochettino fielded a much-changed eleven in the EFL Cup tie and he is expected to go back to his usual selection pattern on Saturday.

Predicted XI

Formation: 4-3-1-2

Hugo Lloris (GK)

Paulo Gazzaniga has played as the No.1 between the sticks in the last couple of games but the Frenchman is expected to return to the eleven on Saturday.

Kyle Walker-Peters (RB)

The academy graduate played as a wing-back in the EFL Cup defeat but he is likely to revert to a more orthodox right-back role against the Saints.

Jan Vertonghen (CB)

The Belgian veteran didn’t play a part against Colchester United but he is likely to take his position at the heart of the defence in the Premier League.

Toby Alderweireld (CB)

Another notable omission from Pochettino’s EFL Cup team, the centre-back has always been an undisputed starter at the back for the Lilywhites and there is no reason why he should be left out on Saturday.

Ben Davies started in the midweek fixture but the England international is likely to return as the first-choice left-back against the Saints at the weekend.

Harry Winks (CDM)

Calm and composed in possession, the defensive midfielder has shown a lot of maturity in recent times and he should be ready to start in the Premier League this weekend after being rested for the cup tie.

Moussa Sissoko (LCM)

The Frenchman contributes a lot with his tough-tackling nature and dogged work-rate and Spurs will need his services to cope with an energetic Southampton unit.

Tanguy Ndombele (RCM)

The club-record signing had a decent outing against Leicester last week and he will be expected to feature ahead of Wanyama and Skipp on Saturday.

Christian Eriksen (LCM)

The Danish playmaker hasn’t really been involved heavily in the last couple of games and Pochettino needs to hand him a start to turn the club’s fortunes around.
