Apple TV+’s original sci-fi series Foundation, inspired by Isaac Asimov’s short stories about rebels battling an intergalactic empire, debuted last June 2021 and completed in June 2022. Now its second run of episodes begins airing this Friday (July 14th). To build anticipation for its return, Apple released an eye-catching official trailer today that can be found below.
Season two’s premiere will pick up 100 years after the events of season one’s finale, as the Cleon Dynasty begins to disintegrate and exiled lovers of psychohistory plan an uprising inspired by religious extremism. Foundation heroes must deal with an assassin plotting against them from within as well as Gaal Dornick feeling betrayed by her digital ghost – plus Hari Seldon working on creating an even bigger Second Foundation than even Empire officials are aware of! Goyer teases that Goyer plans revealing it even to himself during season 2.
Apple TV+’s new episodes will showcase multiple incarnations of Harris’ character as Seldon projects his consciousness into various hologram avatars in order to escape death and protect the Second Foundation. Harris has discussed his challenges of performing each different virtual character convincingly; Goyer has disclosed how the show uses several tools, including flowcharts and Post-it notes, in order to stay on course.
Jared Harris of Dark Matter and The X-Files fame returns for Foundation Season 2, created by David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman and streaming exclusively on Apple TV+. Based on Isaac Asimov’s classic novels about an underrepresented community fighting to protect humanity across an uncaring galaxy.
The second season picks up 100 years after season 1’s conclusion and finds Lee Pace as Brother Day preparing to wage war on Hari Seldon’s Foundation, led by Hari Seldon himself and Hari’s followers – many more of them this time! Additionally, new characters are joining them such as Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell).
At the season 2 premiere, viewers will meet characters they have come to love at an important crossroads that could determine the future of Asimov’s universe. While viewers might find answers to many questions they’ve been asking since season 1, fans can expect new surprises and challenges as well.
Other cast members include Isabella Laughland as Brother Constant, Kulvinder Ghir as Poly Verisof, Ella-Rae Smith as Queen Sareth of Cloud Dominion and Holt McCallany as Warden Jaegger Fount; Rachel House plays Tellem Bond; Nimrat Kaur plays Yanna Seldon while Dimitri Leonidas portrays Hober Mallow Judith Shekoni plays She-Bends-Light while Dimitri Leonidas plays Hober Mallow in this show! Also featured are Dimitri Leonidas portrayals.
Foundation Season Two’s two-minute trailer may feature stunning special effects, but its 10-episode second season focuses on more substantial issues than its predecessor. Notably, Foundation explores the dichotomy between faith and science when applied to humanity as a galactic population; specifically if psychohistory can predict future universe events then why can’t people put faith in psychohistory like they would in god?
Drama is elevated by more realistic portrayals of Asimov’s characters from his works, such as Poly Verisof (Warlord of Kalgan), Hober Mallow (Foundation #2 mathematician) and Bel Riose (the foundation’s astronomer). Nimrat Kaur plays Yanna Seldon – the first female clone ever introduced into Cleons; love also serves as a theme, emphasizing its transformative power as well as the vulnerability associated with opening yourself up to someone new.
Harris and Pace return alongside Laura Birn as Demerzel; Cassian Bilton and Terrence Mann as clones of Brother Day and Dusk respectively, Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick and Leah Harvey as Salvor Hardin; newcomers Isabella Laughland (Brother Constant), Kulvinder Ghir (High Claric of the Church of Galactic Spirit), Ella-Rae Smith as Queen Sareth from Cloud Dominion as key players; series creator David S Goyer will return alongside executive producers Alex Graves, David Ellison Bill Bosss, Robin Asimov.
Season two sees the Foundation take an enormous leap in time as they head towards the Second Crisis and introduce numerous new characters – most notably Lee Pace reprising his role as middle “brother” Cleon clone, but there will also be former military fleet general Bel Riose (Ben Daniels), Han Solo-like interplanetary trader Hober Mallow (Dimitri Leonidas) and dictatorial planet ruler Commdor Argo (Philip Glenister).
At the conclusion of season 1, Hari Seldon’s math prodigy Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell) was unexpectedly awakened from her cryo-pod on Synnax by an underwater beacon and given access to open a vault on Terminus by one of Hari’s last remaining disciples, Salvor Hardin (Jared Harris).
Mentalics possessing psychohistoric abilities could alter history as we know it. As the series enters its religious phase, it becomes clear that fate of both the universe and the characters lies at an important juncture; their decisions could shape history Asimov created. Season 2 of Skydance Television-produced show debuts Friday, July 14, and can be found weekly on Apple TV+ beginning then.
