5th seed Roberto Bautista Agut locks horns with Hungarian No. 1 Marton Fucsovics in the round of 32 of the 2023 Qatar Open.
The Spanish veteran was ousted in the second round of the Adelaide International 1. However, he bounced back strongly to finish runner-up in the Adelaide International 2. In the Australian Open, Bautista Agut managed to reach the fourth round where he lost to Tommy Paul in four sets.
Bautista Agut comes into the tournament on the back of three consecutive losses. After the defeat against Paul, the 34-year-old lost to Arthur Fils in the Montpellier Open and Hubert Hurkacz in the ATP Rotterdam Open. The experienced Spaniard will look to turn things around in the Qatar Open. He is the defending champion as he won the title last year by defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final.
The 31-year-old began the season by winning a Challenger event in Canberra. He went on to compete at the Adelaide International 2 but his campaign ended in the first round of qualifying as he lost to Robin Haase. Fucsovics managed to reach the third round of the Australian Open where he won the first two sets against Jannik Sinner. The Italian youngster made a strong comeback though and eventually won the match.
Before coming to Qatar, Fucsovics played in the Montpellier Open. He defeated Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the first round. Fucsovics was scheduled to play Sinner in the second round but he pulled out of the tournament prior to the encounter.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 2-1 in favor of Roberto Bautista Agut. He defeated Fucsovics in their most recent meeting in the 2022 Halle Open when the Hungarian star pulled out while trailing 2-6, 0-3.
Prediction: Roberto Bautista Agut to win in straight sets.
